IT’S NEVER DONE July 2, 2009

Early in the spring I had replaced the glass in 3 of my ports. I said then that it was done. I lied. I have two 6 inch portholes and one has a crack. I decided to tackle it the other day. Looks simple enough, take out a cotter key and push the pin out of the hinge. Well 2 days later I have the key setting on the chart table, the pin is still firmly stuck in the hinge. Since it is Friday and almost cocktail time, I will wait till next week after spending the weekend spraying penetrating oil on the hinge at least twice a day.

I also discovered that the ring holding the glass in appears to screw into the frame. I tapped on it a few times, seem as movable as the pin. This little project may take weeks. I’ll keep you informed.
