LABOR DAY WEEKEND September 8, 2009

Posted by sailingnightwatch in Durbeck, FL, Florida, ICW, Pensacola, Repairs, Restoration, Sailing, Sailing the ICW.

Well the daughter, son-in-law and GRANDDAUGHTER arrived around midnight Friday for the weekend. We were going to play things by ear because the GRANDDAUGHTER is only 15 months old and never been on a boat. The other situation was my beloved being afraid I would take them out into a storm. We have known people that do things like that, but I am not among them. Saturday was nice with storms around the area, but none near us. We did a short sail with very light wind. It was also pretty warm and quite humid. We got to introduce the GRANDDAUGHTER to the joys of a life jacket. She was not a happy camper. She was born in Vail and has live her life in Breckenridge, CO. She may have seen 70 degrees one or twice. Traveling here did not give her time to acclimate. After we got back, we took a dip in the pool. That she liked.

Sunday was a bummer. Not much wind and a threatening sky. Did make a couple trips to the neighborhood park to swing.

Monday was a little better. An overcast sky that burned off by noon. We did the beach. It was a Chamber of Commerce day with sun and the clearest I have seen the water in quite some time. She enjoyed the water, not knowing what to make of the 1 foot swells that would occasionally come up to where we were making sand castles. When we got back home, she headed for the pool. That seemed to be the favorite part of her stay.

She is now off to see her uncle and aunt in central FL. We will see her again this next weekend as they head back to CO. In the mean time, the GRANDDAUGHTER”S grandparents are having withdrawal.
