IT DID, IT DID, IT DID! August 14, 2011

The wind blew. Saturday it filled in about 2:30 to 3:00. There were calm spots in the sound at 2:45, but I was already in the pool. After the pool, and a nap, it was cocktail time. The Air Con was great. We did not make the Saturday sail.

Sunday was better. We got up late had a great breakfast and got ready to go to church. Then the call came. My daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter are in Qatar. They have moved into an apartment on the Pearl in Doha. The development is new and they do not have fiber optics to there apartment building yet. It is to be done after Ramadan. Therefore the Skype reception is terrible. Bad video or bad audio or both. We have stumbled on a way that fits into our morning and their evening. It seems that although the people there are very religious, there is a chink in there armor. During Ramadan, they do not work during the day, only fast and play on the internet. At sundown, there is a call to prayer and all go to the masque. No one is on the internet.

After the prayer, they go and eat. They have been fasting all day and no one is on the internet. We get great service. It was great seeing the granddaughter again, and being able to interact with here and what she is into. We did that both Saturday and Sunday. Missed church, but got the time with the granddaughter.

Believe it or not, on Sunday the sea breeze filled in at the right time. It was still after noon when we got underway. We had the bottom scrubbed Thursday, so the sailing was great in about 15 kts. and with a fast bottom. The wind may have been more, because we sailed with staysail, reefed main and reefed mizzen. We healed between 10-12 degrees most of the time and ran 5.5-6 kts. It was quick and comfortable. The mate got her nap on the cockpit seat and I got a well deserved sailing fix.
