Or where to install a holding tank on a boat designed without one. If you are a follower of this blog, you know we have Electra Scans on our heads. This boat has no room for a holding tank because all the area for one is taken up with either fuel or water tanks that are an integral parts of the boat’s structure. The wonderful thing about the boat is it has tremendous closet space. I had converted one in the master stateroom for the aft A/C unit space and a hamper. The forward stateroom has 3 ½ feet of hanging closet space. Now it has a little over a foot. I have been in many boats where 1 foot is all you get from the designers.

I have been working on this thing since last week. Major things left are installing the deck waste plate and the air vent. That will be hard but not all that bad. The rest is to hook up all the plumbing lines. It will be set up where I can bypass the holding tank and only use the Electra Scan or in “no discharge areas” divert the discharge from the Electra Scan to the holding tank. Lots of hoses that do not want to fit in my designated space.

All this because there are people around who do not believe the science and force there ill conceived thoughts on the rest of the world. Direct discharge, absolutely not. Proven treatment methods, of course. Because of these people there are thousands of boats that because of poor/cheap designed and maintained holding tank systems, smell so bad as to make the boat unusable by most normal people. Solution, poor eco friendly chemicals into the tank. Yea right.

Were you able to locate the tank in the aft end of the keel under the mizzen mast support?

Yes, It was set up as a fuel tank. I have not used it but plan to when we start cruising. I have put a new fuel pump on that tank and built a valve system to shift between tanks. Will need the fuel capacity, plus sleeping over 60+ gallons of s__t is not that appealing.
